Muslims in Sarawak to observe Ramadan moderately

12/04/2021 07:48 PM

KUCHING, April 12 -- The excitement of celebrating Ramadan can still be felt even though Sarawak is now under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

A Bernama check at Medan Niaga Satok here, saw people flocking to the market to buy necessities and food stocks in preparation for the fasting month of Ramadan.

Grocery trader, Hasnah Hasyim, 43, said she received more customers today compared to the previous days in anticipation of Ramadan.

“Alhamdulillah, we have enough supply of goods as we have made early preparation because it is expected that the public would make more-than-usual purchases,” she told Bernama.

Meanwhile, several local authorities in Sarawak have decided not to hold Ramadan bazaars for this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic which has not subsided yet.

These include the Kuching North City Hall, Kuching South City Council, municipal councils in Padawan, Kota Samarahan and Sibu, as well as the Dalat-Mukah District Council, with local authorities in other parts of the state expected to follow suit.

However, Tarawih prayers are still allowed to be performed in mosques in Sarawak, subject to compliance with the standard operating procedures that have been set.
