Two Thai workes killed, 8 injured in an attack in southern Israel

BANGKOK, May 18 -- Two Thai workers were killed while another eight injured in a rocket attack in Eshkol Region in southern Israel on Tuesday. 

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tanee Sangrat said two the Thai workers were seriously injured in the attack at Ohad, an agricultural settlement in Eshkol, about 14 km from Gaza. 

He said the workers were in a room used to store farm products.

“Royal Thai Embassy in Tel Aviv is coordinating with relevant authorities to get the name list of those killed and injured,” he said in statement. 

He added that the embassy is taking necessary steps to provide assistance to Thai workers who were injured.

To date, there are about 25,000 Thais in Israel.

AFP reported the two workers were killed by rocket fired from Gaza, raising to 12 the death toll in Israel since the conflict broke out.

Last week, a Thai national was injured by a rocket fired from Gaza, Thai media reported.

The recent tensions that started in East Jerusalem in the holy month of Ramadan and spread to Gaza after Palestinian fighters there vowed to retaliate against Israeli assaults on the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah if they were not halted.
