Ceasefire: A victory for Palestinians

21/05/2021 05:59 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 -- The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas has been regarded as a successful day for the Palestinians since the attacks on Gaza started May 10, said Malaysian Palestinian Culture Organisation chairman Muslim Imran.

He said that it can also be considered the first day of Aidilfitri for Muslims in Palestine, since the attack that took place at the end of Ramadan.

“The ceasefire demonstrates our undeniable fighting spirit. Despite all the assistance given to Israel, the spirit of Palestinians is unbeatable,” he said through a Bernama TV Facebook live session, which discussed the topic of the Palestine Map today.

The international media today reported the Israeli Security Cabinet approved a recommendation to end attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip since May 10 and has agreed to a ceasefire.

A total of 232 Palestinians, including 65 children and 39 women, have been killed during the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

Muslim, who speaks Malay fluently, said that living under the Israeli occupation was not easy, as besides having to pass through checkpoints in the West Bank area, the Zionist regime can launch attacks on them at any time.

“Every two or three years Israel will launch attacks; it’s like they (Israel) will not let the grass grow taller. Although we have now reached a ceasefire agreement and can celebrate victory in Gaza, the struggle of the Palestinian people is still not over,” he said.

Meanwhile, Islamic Relief Malaysia chief executive officer, Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, said that Malaysia should continue to stand in strong solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“This is not war. We don’t want to use the term ‘war’ because it’s not comparable.

“It’s a man-made disaster, and ethnic cleansing. We want the solidarity to continue globally, to liberate them (Palestinians) from this injustice,” he said.
