KUALA PERLIS, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail has called on all quarters to support the Cashless Village programme, initiated by Bank Rakyat, to improve the economic status of the locals.

He said the programme should be implemented given the current needs and the new normal among the communities following the rise in online shopping activities and cashless transactions.

"This Cashless Village programme also coincides with the implementation of a royal project namely the Seberang Ramai Fishermen's Village Transformation programme initiated by MAIPs (Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council) and Yayasan Tuanku Syed Putra (YTSP) to elevate fishing villages as new tourist destinations, " he said at the ‘Santai Namun Sampai’ Ramadan 2022 event at Kampung Warna Warni Seberang Ramai here today.

Accompanying him at the event was Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Also present were Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives secretary-general Datuk Suriani Ahmad and MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said the initiative showed that Bank Rakyat was a banking institution that was always committed to supporting the community’s socio-economic development through various entrepreneurial activities.

“Therefore, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Bank Rakyat and MAIPs for their cooperation through this programme to benefit entrepreneurs and the asnaf (tithe recipients) group in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Suriani said Bank Rakyat had also launched the ‘Kebun Nuri Nutrisi’ initiative under the programme to help the B40 group to generate sustainable income.

In addition, she said kits containing food items worth RM29,600 were also distributed to the asnaf group in Perlis involving two locations namely Ameer Fawwaz Mosque in Simpang Empat and Al-Abrar Mosque in Kubang Gajah.

She said Bank Rakyat also handed over a total of RM24,800 to asnaf recipients in Felda Chuping, RM3,700 to asnaf students at Sekolah Kebangsaan LKTP, Chuping, RM2,500 to asnaf students at Sekolah Rendah Islam III and RM10,000 to Nurul Huda Mosque in Felda Chuping to be used by the mosque to host religious activities.

"Bank Rakyat is also providing bus tickets to 50 B40 students at Universiti Malaysia Perlis to allow them to return to their hometowns in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri," she added.
