UDA channels RM27,000 to help orphans, asnaf in JB prepare for Aidilfitri

JOHOR BAHRU, April 21 (Bernama) -- UDA Holdings Bhd, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, UDA Cares, brings cheer to orphans and asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithe) in the city by channelling RM27,000 to help them make preparations for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

UDA chairman Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim said the contribution was in the form of festive clothes such as baju Raya, shoes, and also Raya money.

She said a total of 90 children from asnaf families and orphans from the Rumah Perlindungan Fitrah Qaseh, received a contribution of RM300 each.

“May this small donation channelled by UDA will bring a big smile to these children’s faces to celebrate Aidilfitri this year,” she told reporters after the “Syukuri Ramadan’ event at Angsana Johor Bahru mall here yesterday.

Also present was UDA chief executive officer, Mohd Salem Kailany.

Earlier, Norliza said about 40 recipients from the shelter were treated for Raya shopping at Angsana Johor Bahru Mall, while the rest of the recipients will have their turn tomorrow (April 22).

“Our goal is to see those who are less fortunate be able to celebrate Aidilfitri with joy.

Meanwhile, one of the recipients, Dani Jais, 10, who lost his mother due to a heart attack when he was only two years old, said the contribution brought joy to him and his sister, Noraishah Zaharah, nine, to celebrate Aidilfitri this year.

“It is exciting to get new clothes and shoes. I can't wait to put them on. This year, my sister and I will try to fast for the whole month of Ramadan so when we celebrate Aidilfitri, it will be more meaningful,” he said.
