YADIM urges MCMC to remove or ban Raya video clip seen as promoting LGBT

MELAKA, April 25 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) has urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to remove or ban a Raya music video clip featuring a well-known cosmetics entrepreneur, purportedly promoting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture.

YADIM chief executive officer, Tuan Kamarul Arief Tuan Soh, also urged the MCMC to take necessary action under the MCMC Act to ensure disrespectful acts would not be repeated by the same individual, particularly during the month of Ramadan.

“It is time now for more stern action to be taken by the MCMC because it involved the dissemination of material in cyberspace. There is also no need for further warnings to be issued to the individual concerned as he has always been embroiled in such controversies.

“The MCMC should not only remove or ban the video clip in question but take action against the distributor and maker of the video. There are limits that cannot be violated, especially in Malaysia involving the Muslim community and during the month of Ramadan,” he said to reporters after a YADIM Aidilfitri Assistance programme here today.

Earlier in the programme, he spent time assisting single mother, Umi Nur Faizah Fauzan Ali Halimi, and her four children, aged between seven to 15, to choose their Raya clothes courtesy of YADIM.

He said that YADIM was also prepared to lodge a report with MCMC on the music video if necessary, to enable action to be taken against the individual.

He also called on the public to use their power as consumers to send a strong message that entertainment categorised as ‘rubbish’ is no longer presented to the general public.

He added that YADIM was committed to curbing the process of normalising LGBT in the country through various approaches, including information, law enforcement and continuous advocation by about 10,000 activists in schools and universities.

In another development, he said that YADIM had allocated about RM500,000 to be distributed to 10,000 asnaf (tithe recipients), hardcore poor and the poor throughout Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Umi Nur Faizah, who is looking for used items for her four children, said she was grateful to receive donations of Raya clothes, thus giving joy to her children to celebrate Aidilfitri.
