SUNWAY MALLS LIGHTS UP FESTIVE SEASON WITH "CAHAYA RAYA" CAMPAIGN

30/03/2023 11:09 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Sunway Malls livens up this year’s Hari Raya spirit with a grand launch of its “Cahaya Raya” campaign today.

Sunway Malls and Theme Parks chief executive officer HC Chan said the campaign was inspired by the tradition of lighting up oil lamps during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, also known as Malam Tujuh Likur, to bring light and happiness to all shoppers.

“The launch event was made to be as inclusive to autistic individuals as possible, with earplugs given to aid sound sensitivity as well as special quiet zones within the mall to allow all guests to enjoy the event comfortably.

“Apart from rejoicing in the festivity, it is important we strive to be as inclusive as possible. The measure of societal progress is how we go beyond accepting to embracing and inclusion must be at the heart of what we do,” he said at the launch of the “Cahaya Raya” campaign at Sunway Putra Mall here today.

Also present were Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM) president Datuk Megat Ahmad Shahrani Megat Shahruddin and NASOM chairman Julian Wong.

The aims of the initiative are not only to reduce inequality and spread awareness about autism in the community, but also to recognise and appreciate the diverse ways in which people on the spectrum experience the world, and to advocate for their acceptance and inclusion in society.

Meanwhile, Yeoh said the programme was part of Sunway Malls’ continuous effort with the local community to help those in need during every festival.

“Previously, they helped our frontliners during the COVID-19 (pandemic) and during last Raya, they lent a helping hand to a family in Sungai Penchala to transform their house and this time (Sunway Malls helps) families with autistic children.

“It is important for the private sector to undertake initiatives like this that will have a positive impact on the community. I hope to see more corporations spearheading projects that have a social element,” she said.

The exciting “Cahaya Raya” theme found in all Sunway malls includes contemporary Islamic motifs on the entrance statements, walkways and other beautiful structures.

The 3D sculptures and installations manifest the concepts of geometry, light and space. Their moon and star centrepieces in a variety of shapes represent guidance and diversity.

To further enhance the “Cahaya Raya” feel, shoppers can experience beautiful interactive light displays in the malls as well, each with its own unique digital innovation within.
