IPOH, March 8 (Bernama) -- The zakat fitrah rate in Perak for this year is RM8, RM16 and RM24 depending on the affordability of the household head.

A statement issued by the office of the Chief Executive Officer of the Perak Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) stated that the RM8 rate is for those who use special local rice (5 per cent broken rice and below).

"For those who consume imported super rice, brown rice, scented rice and the like/equivalent, the payment rate is RM16 while for those who consume basmati rice, glutinous rice and the like/equivalent, the rate is RM24," read the statement.

The rate is based on the type of rice consumed by households. Last year, the rate was RM7, RM14 and RM21.

The tithe payment can be made through the “amil” (tithe collectors) either at mosques and surau, as well as several locations where the “amil” will be stationed, such as shopping complexes, markets, gas stations, business premises and selected government or private offices.

Payment can also be made online through MAIPk's Financial Process eXchange (FPX) medium by visiting the website https://ezakat.maiamp.gov.my/, the GoPayZ application, Shopee or Maybank2u.

Meanwhile, the zakat fitrah rate in Selangor for this year is set at RM7, RM14 and RM21 per person.

The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS), in a statement today, said the rate is determined by the current price of rice, considering the grade and type typically consumed by Muslims in Selangor, and is based on a measurement of one "gantang", equivalent to 2.6 kilogrammes.

It said that the RM7 rate is for Muslims who consume ‘Super Special Tempatan’ rice, and it is the minimum mandatory rate set by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee.

The RM14 rate is for zakat payers who consume ‘Super Import’ rice, brown rice, glutinous rice, herbal ponni and fragrant rice, while the RM21 rate is for those who consume basmati rice, Japanese rice, red rice and equivalents.

The zakat fitrah rate based on the price of rice consumed by Muslims has been introduced by LZS since 2018, said the statement.

To facilitate zakat fitrah payments for Muslims in the state, LZS has made available several payment options, including EZakatPay through https://fpx.zakatselangor.com.my, internet banking, MyEg, and Pos Online portals, as well as popular e-wallet applications like MAE, Touch 'n Go, Selangkah, GoPayz, and Boost.

In addition, LZS has appointed 2,778 amil assistants in Selangor to make it easier for Muslims to pay zakat fitrah.

Muslims are also advised to pay zakat fitrah through amils appointed by LZS, who are furnished with authorised credentials and certificates of appointment verified by the board.

LZS also provides its Zakat On Wheels service at strategic locations such as mosques, Ramadan bazaars, farmer's markets, supermarkets, and other convenient spots throughout Selangor to ensure accessibility for Muslims seeking LZS services.

All 18 LZS branches throughout Selangor will operate seven days a week, including public holidays, throughout Ramadan to make it easier for the public to fulfil their zakat obligations.

In Pahang, the zakat fitrah rate in the state for this year remains at RM7 per person, said State Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Hairi Hussain.

However, he said Muslims consuming fragrant rice or similar variants and equivalents are required to pay RM14, while those opting for basmati rice and equivalents must pay RM21.

"Last year, we only encouraged Muslims to pay zakat fitrah according to the type and price of rice they commonly consumed, but it is different this year as we've now made it mandatory.

"All decisions regarding zakat fitrah have been made by the Syarak Law Consultation Committee and must be adhered to," he told a press conference at the MUIP office today.

Ahmad Hairi said a total of 942 amils had been appointed to handle the zakat payments in the state.
