Ksrelief Of Saudi Arabia Distributes 25 Tonnes Of Dates In Malaysia For Ramadan 1445h

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 (Bernama) -- The Saudi Arabian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with the King Salman Relief and Humanitarian Centre (KSrelief) of Saudi Arabia, launched a programme to distribute 25 tonnes of dates in Malaysia on Monday.

Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Malaysia Messad Ibrahim al-Sulaim said the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Gift programme continued the tradition in conjunction with Ramadan 1445H by distributing dates not only in some Muslim countries but also in Muslim minority countries worldwide.

"Since 2000, more than 84,000 tonnes of dates have been distributed in 72 countries. This year, Malaysia again received 25,000 tonnes of dates same as last year.

"The gift of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques proves the profound humanitarian and cultural aspects of the Saudi Arabian (KSA) government, as well as closer relations with the countries that are KSA's strategic partners through the assistance extended by KSrelief," he said at the launch of the programme in the capital.

Also present at the meeting was the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Speaker of Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Director General of the Department of Islamic Development (Jakim) Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff, ambassadors of Arab countries and other foreign diplomats.

In addition to the distribution of dates, the programme under the patronage of the King of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud, also distributed copies of the Quran with translations in Malay. Mohd Na'im in his speech expressed his appreciation to the government of Saudi Arabia and King Salman who have always cared about the welfare of Muslims in Malaysia for a long time.
