KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian High Commission in Namibia hosted an iftar ceremony for over 150 Muslims who gathered for Maghrib prayers at the Windhoek Islamic Centre today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian High Commission, the event saw the distribution and serving of food packs containing fried chicken noodles, apples, mineral water and dates to the Namibian Muslim community observing Ramadan.

These food packs, prepared by the Perwakilan Ladies Windhoek, were distributed by acting High Commissioner Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya and his officers, who then joined the Namibian Muslim community to break their fast and perform Maghrib prayers.

Also in attendance was the chairman of the Public Service Commission cum the chairman of the Islamic Council in Namibia, Salmaan D Jacobs.

Dr Mohamad Rameez noted that even though Muslims comprise only one to two per cent of Namibia’s three million population, the spirit of unity embodied in the national motto, 'One Namibia, One Nation,' remains strong.

He also said that the infaq given aims to assist those in need during Ramadan and hoped that this small token of food packs would indicate that the Malaysia MADANI concept is also being realised overseas, including in Namibia.
