PUTRAJAYA, March 29 (Bernama) -- The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) with the theme 'Indahnya Ramadan' provided culinary students from Selayang Community College a platform to showcase their talents through large-scale cooking activities, applying their classroom learning.

Polytechnic and Community College Education Department, Student Recruitment and Development Division director Azirin Abdul Aziz said that the cooking activity involved 100 students and three lecturers preparing 1,000 food packs containing sandwiches and roti John.

“Our aim is to give culinary students practical experience and to utilise their skills and knowledge in food preparation, especially on a larger scale," he told Bernama after the programme  held at Dataran Putrajaya today.

The Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education collaborates with Bernama to organise the programme. Strategic partners include FGV Holdings Bhd, Hong Leong Islamic Bank, Maju Expressway Sdn Bhd, All Kurma Sdn Bhd, Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) and Miaow Miaow Food Products Sdn Bhd.

This was the news agency’s second Ramadan CSR programme. The first one was held last year at Bazaria Lembah Pantai where 500 food packs were distributed to the local community.

The programme, held at Dataran Putrajaya from 6 pm to 7 pm, featured the distribution of 1,000 food packs and goodie bags to visitors by Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity of Ramadan.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) Licensing Division chief assistant director Rozimah Wahid said the collaboration with Bernama was to facilitate donation distribution locations and provide aprons to food truck vendors around Dataran Putrajaya.

"We maintain a friendly cooperation with Bernama and PPj and we support media agencies, especially Bernama, the nation’s mouthpiece. Whenever collaboration is sought, we strive to provide our best support," she said.

All Kurma Sdn Bhd director Pam Chiang said the company donated about 1,500 bundles of dates and date syrup.

"In our packs, we have dates from Egypt under the 'Date Crown' brand. We have also donated date essence, which is 100 per cent natural and sugar-free, serving as a healthier alternative sweetener," she said.

When asked about the strategic partnership with Bernama, she said that Ramadan is the month of giving and sharing and that the Penang-based company is grateful to be part of the programme.
