Rahmah Sales Programme Eases Aidilfitri Preparation, Alleviating People's Burden

JOHOR BAHRU, March 30 (Bernama) -- The continuous Rahmah Sales programme and government assistance for the needy greatly benefit various segments of society, especially in obtaining essential goods at affordable prices.

Also enjoying the benefits are the residents of the Sri Stulang People's Housing Project (PPR) flats here, who have the opportunity to purchase essential items at discounted prices during this year’s Ramadan and for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri through the Ramadan Rahmah Sales programme. 

The residents are of the view that despite the rise in prices of goods, including raw materials, the government’s ongoing efforts to offer assistance and continue implementing the Rahmah Sales programme greatly alleviate their financial burden.

Kamsiah Mostari, a 64-year-old single mother, said the Rahmah Sales programme, which offers essential items at cheaper prices, somehow assists in lessening the people’s burden and helps them cope with rising prices of goods.

“It’s not the government’s fault if the prices of fish or other items increase...I believe this issue occurs all around the world.

“The government provides various assistance to those in need, including single mothers like me,” she said when met by Bernama here.

Media reports previously cited Kamsiah as saying that her family rarely has the opportunity to enjoy decent meals due to the rising living costs.

In the report, she also said that over the past month, her family has been unable to buy fish due to its soaring price.

Meanwhile, Kamsiah Kamsiah expressed gratitude to the government for its continuous concern for the people’s plight, as evidenced by the organisation of many affordable sales events such as the Rahmah Sales.

 “I hope that the government will continue to implement the Rahmah Sales programme after Ramadan and Hari Raya, as it greatly benefits many people,” she told Bernama.

Echoing similar sentiments, housewife Rohayah Talo, 66, expressed her gratitude for the support she received from the government, various corporate bodies, and traders through the programme.

According to the mother of five, all parties should emulate the government’s people-centric efforts aimed at alleviating their burden, benefiting not only the B40 group but also the M40 group and those newly employed.

It was previously reported that the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) would expand the implementation of the Rahmah Sales Programme during Ramadan, covering 450 locations nationwide.

The effort aims to reduce the cost of living for the people and enable them to buy essentials a discount rate of between 10 and 30 per cent, especially during Ramadan.

Besides the sale of dry goods, PJR Ramadan will also include the sale of other daily necessities such as chicken, beef, fish, assorted seafood, rice and chicken eggs.

The ministry is also working with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) and the Federal Agricultural Marketing Board (Fama) to stock up on produce, especially wet goods, which are sold cheaply.
