KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) -- Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad (PruBSN), through the ‘Merayakan Alam, Melestarikan Kehidupan’ (celebrating nature, sustaining life) campaign, has launched various initiatives in applying the values of sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in observing Ramadan and celebrating Aidilfitri, based on the concept of Ta'awun (cooperation).
PruBSN chief executive officer Wan Saifulrizal Wan Ismail said that, for the first time in its history, more than 700 volunteers, consisting of PruBSN officers and agents, have been working hard alongside local communities throughout Malaysia.
“A total of 12,000 packs of bubur lambuk have been cooked and distributed by volunteers to several selected locations, including mosques and institutions of higher learning in 14 states.
“In addition, PruBSN volunteers also went to the field to clean the Pantai Dalam Muslim Cemetery, this initiative, to some extent, helps the management of mosques and graves to provide facilities, and a clean and comfortable environment for the public,” he said at the PruBSN Iftar with Media Friends today.
On sustainability of nature and a clean environment, he said that PruBSN has made a difference in conveying the message of sustainability, by issuing exclusive sustainable raya packets, specially designed by PruBSN, using paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
“Throughout the month of Ramadan, PruBSN also launched a fundraising initiative through the One Donation, One Family (ODOF) initiative, which has entered its fifth year, which aims to raise funds to provide free takaful protection to low-income groups through the PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah (MTJ) programme.
“MTJ provides free life takaful protection for a year, worth RM10,000, for eligible heads of households below the poverty line. Thus far, PruBSN has sponsored more than 148,000 less fortunate families through the initiative, since 2018,” he said.
According to him, the MTJ is a collaboration with the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department (JPM), and through the information obtained, it traces the poor and hardcore poor by providing free takaful protection to the head of the family’s household.
“We have already implemented and contributed to the protection last March, and estimate to provide coverage to more than 35,000 heads of families this year, and the implementation will be carried out in stages.
“In addition, this year we will also launch new medical products, which are believed to be the first in the market,” he said.
