KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) -- The FAMA Semarak Ramadan programme, launched by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) today, will travel to 25 locations throughout the country, especially in rural areas, to reach out to the needy.

The programme, which has been held since 2017, was launched by FAMA director-general Datuk Zainal Abidin Yang Razalli, together with Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat) chief risk officer Ahmad Shukri Abd Rahman at the FAMA headquarters.

FAMA, in a statement today, said among the programme locations are Kesang Tua Mosque in Jasin, Melaka; Nurul Taqzim Mosque in Beluran, Sabah; and Surau Muafakat Kampung Bendang Luas in Selama, Perak.

FAMA also said that the programme, apart from aiming to bring the agency closer to the target group, was also to enliven the month of Ramadan with charity activities among the local community.

According to the statement, Bank Rakyat contributed RM414,000 to FAMA in the form of food kits to be donated to nearly 2,070 hardcore poor nationwide during the Ramadan tour.

“Each recipient will receive a food kit worth RM200 to meet staple and basic needs. This contribution is very much in line with the concept of the Keluarga Malaysia implemented by the government to highlight the aspiration of caring citizens who are always united to help one another," according to the statement.

Apart from that, FAMA and Bank Rakyat service delivery will also be carried out at each Ramadan tour location to ensure that the local community understands the roles and tasks to meet the needs of stakeholders.

“This Ramadan tour is a concept that we introduced, where we go to the ground to help the needy and the community during the month of Ramadan. We have already planned 25 official locations and several more unofficial places to bring the total to 30 locations nationwide.

"I also thank the value in contribution given by Bank Rakyat to carry out this vibrant Ramadan programme to be kind to the needy during the month of Ramadan," said Zainal in the statement.
