KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) today launched the Meaningful Ramadan Campaign which takes place during the fasting month this year.

PPZ-MAIWP in a statement informed that the campaign aimed to encourage the Muslim community in the country to pay zakat (alms) during the month of Ramadan, apart from announcing services and payment channels as well as interesting programmes during the period.

It is also offering various attractive prizes to contributors of property and ‘fitrah’ (obligatory) zakat through the payment channels provided, including 10 PPZ-MAIWP counters, digital zakat counters, door-to-door services, online payment channels, zakat collection agents and virtual zakat.

"Contributors who pay property zakat at any PPZ-MAIWP payment channel have the opportunity to win various attractive prizes such as the Umrah Package and Ziarah Package, while for online zakat fitrah payment, they have the opportunity to win prizes such as exclusive prayer rugs and telekung, watches, food vouchers and more.

"PPZ-MAIWP would like to bring together zakat contributors and asnaf (zakat recipients) to celebrate Ramadan with reverence and fill it with good deeds through various specially designed programmes throughout the campaign," according to the statement.

The launching ceremony of the Meaningful Ramadan Campaign was earlier officiated by PPZ-MAIWP chief executive officer Abdul Hakim Amir Osman.

Meanwhile, PPZ-MAIWP informed that it also provided various interesting programmes and activities such as including quizzes and competitions to make this Ramadan more meaningful than in previous years.

"All Muslims in the Federal Territory are urged to seize the blessings of Ramadan by giving 2.5 per cent of one's possessions (surplus wealth) to the asnaf, so that they can be taken care of and can enjoy the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration like other Muslims," read the statement.
