Muslims in Thailand start fasting Sunday

BANGKOK, April 2 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Thailand will start fasting tomorrow (Sunday, April 3), according to a statement from the Sheikhul Islam Office of Thailand, today.

Sheikhul Islam head Aziz Pitakkumpol said Thailand set today to observe the crescent moon  for Ramadan at several locations in the southern province.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Sheikhul Islam Office of Thailand, Sutham Boonmalert, advised Muslims in the country to always adhere to the health protocol set by the Ministry of Public Health during Ramadan to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Director-General of the Department of Health Dr. Suwanchai Wattanayingcharoenchai also advised Muslims to take precautions when conducting religious activities including congregational prayers.

In addition, he said they should have completed their vaccinations and booster dose.
