POLICE EXPECT 50 PCT SPIKE IN VEHICLES ENTERING MELAKA FOR AIDILFITRI

MELAKA -- Melaka police expect a 50 per cent increase from the average of 45,000 vehicles entering the state at three toll plazas after the country moves to the transition to endemic phase on April 1 and in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Melaka deputy police chief, Datuk Razali Abu Samah said monitoring of the traffic flow at entry points to the state also indicated a spike on April 1 involving 45,203 vehicles compared to March 31 (31,145 vehicles).

“We believe the entry of vehicles will continue to go up until Aidilfitri based on Melaka’s position as a focus of domestic and international tourists in addition to its residents living outside the state returning to their villages and hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya and for holidays,” he said.

He told reporters after a House Safety campaign and Distribution of Lambuk Porridge launched by state Housing, Local Government and Environment Community chairman Datuk Zaidi Attan.

FOOD PRICES STABLE AT LABUAN RAMADAN BAZAAR

LABUAN -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) of Labuan today gave its assurance that the prices of food items at all bazaar Ramadan here would remain relatively stable.

Its director, Junaidah Arbain confirmed there was adequate food supply and they did not see any possibility of a rise in prices.

“As we understand, Labuan is still highly dependent on food supplies like fresh vegetables and meat as well as other essential goods from mainland Sabah. Even if there is a slight increase in food prices, it will not hurt the consumers much.

“Anything from outside of Labuan is subject to transportation costs, as such, we have to understand the situation facing the traders too,” she told Bernama after leading an enforcement team in Op Pantau at Labuan Walk Bazaar here today.
