MAIDAM allocates RM12.43 mln to provide Ramadan aid for the needy

KUALA TERENGGANU, April 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIDAM) has allocated RM12.43 million to help 21,187 individuals catergorised as poor and hardcore poor in the state during the month of Ramadan this year.

MAIDAM president Datuk Shaikh Harun Shaikh Ismail said of the total, 2,145 recipients were the hardcoor poor, while another 19,042 were in the poor category.

He said each of them would receive between RM500 and RM700 depending on the number of dependents in the family.

“Today, we handed over contributions to 174 recipients around Kuala Terengganu while payments for recipients in other districts will be credited directly to their respective bank accounts in stages starting today,” he told reporters at the state-level zakat presentation ceremony, here today.

Also present was MAIDAM chief executive officer Associate Professor Dr Azrin Ahmad Mohd Adnan.

Shaikh Harun said Kuala Terengganu had the highest number of recipients at 6,367 people followed by Kuala Nerus (4,250), Kemaman (2,582), Marang (2,400), Dungun (2,315), Hulu Terengganu (1,587), Besut (1,168) and Setiu (518).
