Food poisoning: Samples of 'puding buih' to be sent to lab for analysis
KUALA TERENGGANU, April 10 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Health Department will conduct laboratory tests on samples of ‘puding buih’ which is believed to have caused two children to suffer from food poisoning last Wednesday.
State Health director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong said the samples would be sent to the Bukit Tunggal Food Safety and Quality Laboratory and the results would be obtained within seven days.
“If the pudding is proven to be the cause of food poisoning, action can be taken against the trader who sold the food under Regulation 39 of the Food Regulations 1985,” she said when contacted by Bernama today.
Yesterday, the media reported that two siblings from Kampung Seberang Tuan Chik here suffered from diarrhea and vomiting at 4 am after eating ‘puding buih’ which was bought by their mother from a stall in Bukit Tumbuh at 6 pm, last Wednesday.
The children, aged nine and seven, were admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) on Thursday for treatment. Both of them are now in stable condition and one has been discharged.
Meanwhile, Dr Kasemani advised the public to be more careful when buying food during Ramadan to avoid such incidents from recurring.
“Practice the method of seeing, smelling and tasting food before eating especially foods that use eggs because eggs that are not cooked perfectly can contain the salmonella bacteria which can cause food poisoning,” she said.
