Over 63,000 asnaf families in Selangor receive aid for Ramadan, Aidilfitri
SHAH ALAM, April 26 (Bernama) -- Over 63,000 asnaf families in Selangor have received zakat (tithe) assistance totalling RM28.7 million since March 29 to prepare for Ramadan and Aidilfitri celebration.
Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said they comprised 18,689 household heads from the fakir (hardcore poor) families, with a total zakat distribution of about RM9 million.
“A total of 40,044 household heads from the poor families received zakat assistance totalling RM18.3 million and 4,268 converts received a total of RM1.3 million.
“Each family receive between RM300 and RM1,000 depending on the number of households,” he said in his speech at the breaking of fast event and presentation of business tithe 2022 here today.
Also present was LZS deputy chairman Tan Sri Ambrin Buang.
Mohd Sabirin said this Ramadan, LZS aimed to collect RM155 million in property tithe, RM35 million in personal tithe and RM22.8 million in business tithe.
At today’s programme, LZS distributed zakat assistance worth RM1.2 million involving medical equipment for lung problems and contribution for the development of the Islamic Sign Language Glossary Application for people with hearing impairment totalling RM181,800 to Institut Latihan Islam Malaysia.
“LZS also presented contributions for the sanitisation of mosques and surau in Selangor to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department and laptops to selected students in higher learning institutions,” he said.
Earlier, LZS received RM3.5 million in business tithe from 43 companies.
