MELAKA, March 15 (Bernama) -- The booking rate at the MITC Hotel here has soared to 70 per cent since January this year, in line with the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) campaign aimed at drawing visitors to the state.

Its general manager, Sazali Sabri, said the increase in bookings, compared to the 40 to 50 per cent range seen during normal days last year, indicated a faster rebound for the hotel sector.

“Most of our bookings come from foreign tourist groups, particularly China and South Korea, which is about 50 per cent of the total 200 rooms available at this hotel.

“We are now in the recovery phase after more than two years of being affected by closures. We can see that the process is progressing rapidly,” he told reporters after the Ramadan Buffet launch here last night.

Elaborating, Sazali said during Ramadan, the hotel is offering about 180 dishes under the ‘Bufet Iftar Citarasa Chef Rahim’, alongside moreh packages, and also hosting 60 students from Sekolah Rendah Arab JAIM Merlimau Pasir for breaking of fast event.

Despite the increase in goods prices, he said only a RM10 increase has been implemented for the Iftar package, which is now priced at RM98 for adults and RM48 for children.

“At the same time, we have also increased our menu offerings and introduced early bird discount vouchers, which have received encouraging response from the public,” he said.
