Over 400 Kg Of Food Salvaged From Kuala Nerus Ramadan Bazaars
KUALA TERENGGANU, March 30 (Bernama) -- A total of 418.52 kilogrammes of unsold food at the Ramadan bazaars around Kuala Nerus was saved, through the state's MySaveFood@Ramadan programme.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Terengganu branch director, Saharuddin Mohd Kia, said that the campaign was initiated by the state GEMA Malaysia Youth Organisation (GEMA), along with volunteers of the Students’ Consumer Movement (GPS) of the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) Dato Razali Ismail Campus (IPG KDRI) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA).
He said that the food surpluses were distributed to students and the surrounding communities who were less able.
“The objective of this programme is to cultivate an effective food surplus management system at Rahmah Ramadan bazaars, to reduce food waste by 2030,” he said after a walkabout session at Rahmah Ramadan Bazaar in Kuala Ibai, today.
Also present was the state Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman, Ariffin Deraman.
In the meantime, Saharuddin said that KPDN will hold the Rahmah Aidilfitri bazaars from April 4 to 6, at 32 locations statewide.
However, the locations of the bazaars are still being identified, to ensure that more visitors can enjoy Aidilfitri essentials at a lower price.
“For the Rahmah Aidilfitri bazaars, we will collaborate with various agencies, including the Federal Agricultural Marketing Board (FAMA) and the state Department of Agriculture.
“Items that will be sold include raya essentials, such as meat, chicken, and many more, at 30 to 40 per cent lower than market prices,” he said.
