KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- The introduction of the BSN DuitNow QR Soundbox device by Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) serves as an incentive for vendors at the Ramadan bazaar, particularly those in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), to embrace digitalisation in their business operations.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said the device which emits a distinct chime upon transaction completion, streamlines traders' operations by facilitating direct deposit of payments into their bank accounts, thus helping them to check the sales collection.

"The crucial aspect is that payments are deposited directly into the bank account, creating a clear transaction record, which can be valuable for merchants seeking loans in the future, as it establishes a financial track record.”

He said this after his visit to the TTDI Ramadan bazaar today to observe the device's implementation. Also present was BSN chief executive officer Jay Khairil Jeremy.

Meanwhile, Jay Khairil said a total of 82 traders or 55 per cent of all traders at the TTDI Ramadan bazaar had received sponsorship from BSN for the devices, including tents, hats and aprons which were given to all traders in stages.

Aside from the TTDI Ramadan bazaar, he said BSN also supplied the device to traders in 24 Ramadan bazaars around the capital, including Taman Bukit Cheras, Bandar Tun Razak and Wangsa Maju Ramadan bazaars.

According to Jay Khairil, the response to the device has been very encouraging from both merchants and customers and hopes that more traders will accept digital payment through the device.

He said the device offers a flexible payment solution for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs, allowing customers to easily scan QR codes or use cards for hassle-free payments.

Addressing concerns about occasional buyers trying to cheat and not showing payment receipts to merchants, Khairil said the device is equipped with a sound box that serves as an alarm to inform merchants that payment has been successfully made and credited to their account.

At the event, BSN through its corporate social responsibility brand BSN Care also distributed 500 iftar meals to the community in TTDI through the 'BSN Care Ikhlas Ramadan' programme.

Among the recipients were the TTDI police station, TTDI fire and rescue station, TTDI At-Taqwa Mosque and visitors to the TTDI Ramadan bazaar.
