KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) today handed over contributions totalling RM30,000 to 200 Muslim converts and the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation (PERKIM) as part of the ‘Mahabbah Ramadan’ programme through the #TakafulUntukSemua campaign.

MTA chief operating officer Hasri Hamidan said of this, RM10,000 was allocated to PERKIM, and RM100 in ‘duit raya’ was given to each of the 200 converts feted at the Mahabbah Ramadan Iftar (breaking of fast) event.

“The Mahabbah Ramadan Iftar event also received full support from Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad (EFTB) in channeling ‘wakalah zakat’ funds to be distributed to the asnaf (tithe recipients) group.

“Having such programmes not only brings joy to converts who will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri but also provides an opportunity for Takaful operators in Malaysia to continue assisting those in need,” he said at the event, held in collaboration with PERKIM, here today.

Also present were PERKIM Dakwah (Propagation) Senior Director Datuk Razali Shahabudin and EFTB Syariah Research Department and Centre of Excellence Senior Manager Mohamad Noor Sahidi Johari.

Hasri said throughout Ramadan, MTA has been organising iftar programmes and distributing aid to various asnaf groups, including tahfiz students, orphans and the underprivileged.

“In addition, we also emphasise financial literacy education in line with the Value-Based Intermediation for Takaful (VBIT), which is also included in empowering the Financial Inclusion Framework (FIF) 2023-2026 for all layers of society.

“Through such programmes, we indirectly raise awareness among the public about the importance of Takaful protection as a crucial financial instrument in their financial management,” he said.

In another development, Hasri said MTA recently introduced the ‘Hijrah27’ transformation plan to empower the Takaful industry in the country.

He said MTA will continue various financial literacy activities and programmes, including ‘Takaful Masuk Kampung’ (TMK), ‘Takaful in Campus’ (TiC), and collaboration programmes with financial agencies such as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

It will also involve the Credit Counselling and Management Agency (AKPK) and the Financial Industry Collective Outreach (FINCO) nationwide soon.
