MELAKA, April 8 (Bernama) -- A restaurant in Peringgit, here, was raided by Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) enforcement officers after it was believed to be a spot for the black plastic gang (non-fasting Muslims) to buy food during the month of Ramadan.

In the raid carried out this afternoon, two restaurant workers who acted as ulat’ or delivery man were issued with notices.

JAIM director Datuk Che Sukri Che Mat said the operation dubbed Op Plastik Hitam Menggelegak was conducted following intelligence work carried out since the first day of Ramadan.

He also said that the restaurant was a hotspot for those who habitually skipped fasting during the month of Ramadan.

“For today’s operation, seven notices were issued to the restaurant owner and workers, aged between 24 and 63, for committing offences under Section 49 of the Melaka State Syariah Offences Enactment 1991 and they were ordered to go to the JAIM office to have their statement taken,” he told reporters after the operation today.

Che Sukri said initial investigations found that the restaurant which started its operations as early as 8 am claimed they were only selling food to non-Muslims.

He said the restaurant had also been issued with warning notices previously for carrying out such activities.

“This time the modus operandi is to deliver the pre-packed food and drinks that are ordered through phone to buyers who will wait in their car,” he said.
