KOTA BHARU, March 21 (Bernama) -- Two business premises in the vicinity of Kota Bharu were among those fined by the Kota Bharu Islamic City Council (MPKB-BRI) in an operation last night, suspected of selling illegal online gambling IDs.
MPKB-BRI president, Mohd Anis Hussein, stated that these two premises included a grocery store in Kampung Desa Rahmat operated by a 27-year-old Indonesian man and a phone accessory shop owned by a 25-year-old woman in Kampung Mentuan.
He mentioned that MPKB-BRI had undercover officers posing as ordinary citizens to purchase gambling IDs at the premises in Kampung Desa Rahmat.
"We successfully uncovered the illicit activity around 11.30 pm last night,” he said during a media briefing at the MPKB-BRI office today.
"We want to issue a warning to such syndicates to cease their activities immediately, or they will face strict action from the authorities," he cautioned.
During the same operation, MPKB-BRI also apprehended four beggars, including a Thai citizen, and issued a compound to an eatery in Kampung Wakaf Stan under Section 107(2) of the Local Government Act for breaching licensing conditions by commencing operations at noon during the month of Ramadan.
