PUTRAJAYA, March 29 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) aims to intensify and expand its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes next year to promote is role and raise its public image.

Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai said CSR programmes organised during Ramadan this year were meant to foster the muhibah spirit and spread joy, especially among Putrajaya residents.

“We always talk about Ramadan being the month to better ourselves, so we at Bernama organise the Ramadan with Bernama CSR programme together with our strategic partners, including Hong Leong Islamic Bank, FGV Holdings Bhd (FGV) and Maju Expressway Sdn Bhd,” he said at the agency’s Indahnya Ramadan CSR programme at Dataran Putrajaya here today.

This is the second year that Bernama has organised the programme, which took place from 6 pm to 7 pm, and Communications Ministry Fahmi Fadzil was present to give out 1,000 food packs and goodie bags to visitors in a celebration of charity and generosity.

FGV Group strategic communications chief officer Azmi Yaakop, who also attended the event, said such CSR programmes allowed the company to grow closer to the community.

"This is the first time we’re working together for the Ramadan month and we feel lucky to have been given the chance to contribute to the community and those in need. I hope FGV’s contributions will strengthen our existing ties with Bernama,” Azmi said.

Meanwhile, Hong Leong Islamic Bank Berhad chief executive officer (CEO) Dafinah Ahmed Hilmi said that the bank was also offering financial advice, especially about its ‘Celik Muamalat', besides providing the 1,000 food packs.

"It's good that we see this kind of collaboration where we are able to engage with the Putrajaya folks.

"So it's the part of our engagement to create awareness with community and the people," she shared.

Others who were at today’s event include Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Bernama CEO Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.

Bernama’s programme today was also supported by All Kurma Sdn Bhd, the Politechnic and Community College Education Department, Putrajaya Corp and Miaow Miaow Food Products Sdn Bhd.
