Humanitarian Element To Be A Condition For Bazaar Organisation In Melaka Historic City - Mayor

MELAKA, March 31 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) is prepared to make the humanitarian element one of the conditions for organising Ramadan and Aidilfitri Bazaars in the future, said its Mayor, Datuk Shadan Othman.

He said this element could serve a dual purpose, encouraging organisers to assist the less fortunate and not solely prioritise profits, and it may be followed by all local authorities (PBT) in Melaka.

"We can take the Melaka Grand Ramadan Bazaar (Melgrab) on Jalan Hang Tuah as an example to other Aidilfitri bazaar organisers. In their efforts to profit during the festive season, they do not forget the people of Palestine.

"This is a good example, and without any targets (collection amount), visitors to this bazaar can contribute to the Palestinian fund," he told reporters after launching the Palestinian Humanitarian Fund at Melgrab on Jalan Hang Tuah here last night, which was also attended by Melgrab organiser Muhammad Fikri Mohd Ali.

Meanwhile, Shadan said that in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) Year, visitors were seen making Melgrab and Glam Ramadan Bazaar Klebang (Glam) the focal points for shopping on weekends compared to other bazaars.

"The entry rate to Melaka has also increased, especially on weekends, and just last week, no fewer than 5,000 visitors came to Melaka for group breaking fast or pre-dawn meals, such as from motorcycling clubs, and for me, it's a good sign," he said.

Muhamad Fikri also said that he is positive that the organisation of Melgrab in its third year could attract 2.5 million visitors.

"By the second week (of Ramadan) alone, we have recorded 1 million visitors based on coupons, and I believe with good promotion, visitors will continue to come here because purchasing trends are very subjective," he added.
