Raja Norsharina Among 12 Named For Women's Indoor Hockey Asia Cup Challenge

KUALA LUMPUR, May 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) have named 12 players, including experienced midfielder Raja Norsharina Raja Shahbuddin, for the 2024 Women's Indoor Hockey Asia Cup to be held in Chonburi, Thailand from May 13-16.

"The team have been training since the Ramadan month. We also arranged friendlies with the Singapore squad. These matches helped us to work on our weaknesses and correct our mistakes ahead of the Asia Cup,” national women's indoor hockey head coach Mohd Rodzhanizam Mat Radzi said in a statement issued by the MHC today.

The tournament, to be held at the Thailand National Sport University (TNSU) in Chonburi, sees Malaysia drawn in Group A with Kazakhstan, Iran, Nepal and Oman. Group B comprises hosts Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.

In the 2022 edition in Bangkok, Malaysia finished third after defeating Kazakhstan 2-0 in the third-placing playoff.
