KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) clinched eight Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) 2023 at the Malaysian Journalists Night 2024 today.
Its feature and current affairs desk journalist, Nurul Isnaini Mohd Muslim bagged gold (first prize) in the Outstanding Feature category to take home a trophy, RM10,000 cash prize and a certificate.
This is her second consecutive win in the same category.
This time, she captured the hearts of the jury panel through three articles titled "Perspective: Naivete Paves The Road To Hell, What Malaysians Falling For Job Scams Go Through”; "Important To Recognise Red Flags To Avoid Falling For Job Scams Overseas”; and "Kidnapped In Thailand: When ‘Friends' Sell You To Human Trafficking Syndicates”.
In addition, Bernama’s feature and current affairs desk journalists Nurqalbi Mohd Reda and Balkhis Awang won bronze in the same category, taking home a cash prize of RM2,000 and a certificate each through three reports titled "Mampukah PPR Keluar Daripada Belenggu Kawasan Hitam”; "Perumahan Berdaya Huni Atasi Tekanan Mental Kanak-Kanak”; and "PPR Berdaya Huni, KPKT Laksana Pelbagai Penambahbaikan.”
Meanwhile, Bernama Radio reigned supreme in four radio categories, namely Best Radio Report, Best Radio Documentary, Best Radio Interview and Best Live Radio Broadcast.
Bernama Radio's Nurliyana Farhah Ruslan won the gold for the Best Radio Report category, taking home a trophy, RM10,000 cash prize and a certificate for the report titled "Palestin: Panji Perjuangan Belum Selesai”.
Ahmad Fawzan Azmie Abdul Halil, meanwhile, won the bronze for the same category and pocketed RM2,000 and a certificate for his report titled "Mek Mulung: Puwitera Wangsa Bangsa”.
For the Best Radio Documentary category, Bernama Radio's Muhamad Azim Zaid took bronze with the documentary titled "Menyingkap Kisah Pejuang Kanser” while Bernama Radio leaders Raifanabillah Zulkifli and Natasha Aimee Hasim were awarded the silver for the Best Radio Interview category with the topic "Membina Pengangkutan Awam Bersama”.
For the Best Live Radio Broadcast category, Wan Nadia Khairani Wan Chik bagged the gold for the live broadcast on "Perkembangan Bedah Siasat Mangsa Nahas Elmina” from HTAR, Klang; and Ahmad Fawzan Azmie Abdul Halil took silver for the "Lintas Langsung Nahas Elmina.”
In addition, Bernama photographer Zulfadhli Zulkifli was crowned the silver winner for the Best Photojournalism category for his work titled "17 Ramadan”.
For the Best Video Interview category, Shahrul Aini Saharan of Bernama TV won the silver for "Derita Di Gaza, Airmata Di Kuala Lumpur”, while the bronze winner of the Best Video News Live Streaming category was also from Bernama TV, namely Amirudin Ahmad and Siti Hajar Mohd with their work "Lintas Langsung Nahas Elmina”.
Meanwhile, Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj said the success achieved by the staff of the news agency is a great recognition of their efforts to produce and report quality news.
He said the success was also an inspiration to all Bernama members to produce more impactful and high-quality news reports, thus further strengthening Bernama's position as the best news agency in the region.
A delighted Nurliyana Farhah described her win in the Best Radio Report category with the title "Palestin: Panji Perjuangan Belum Selesai” as a recognition of the power to speak out.
"I use my trust, duty and responsibility as a journalist to disseminate and expose humanitarian issues and the suffering of the Palestinian people to the public... this is a worthwhile endeavour," she said.
