KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 (Bernama) – The Ramadan bazaar organised by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is a platform where undergraduates can sharpen their entrepreneurial potential apart from accumulating business experience to generate income, says its deputy vice-chancellor (Industry and Community Partnership), Prof Datuk Dr Norazah Mohd Nordin.

She said the programme was aimed at giving the students the opportunity and exposure to entrepreneurship activities.

“A total of 22 graduate entrepreneur traders have taken up this opportunity to sell a variety of menu for the breaking of fast at the bazaar site which is also next to the Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak, UKM, Bangi,” she said in a statement here today.

Norazah said, unlike the previous year, this year there is more space for the students to introduce their products and showcase their talents and entrepreneurial skills.

“As suggested by the Ministry of Higher Education, entrepreneurship development at institutions of higher learning must be continued so that it would change the mindset of students from just being job seekers to job creators.

“Through this year’s Ramadan Bazaar, graduate entrepreneurs can acquire valuable and hands-on experience,” she said.

Meanwhile, for a third-year student from the Faculty of Economy and Management, Rheeima Hari Krishnan, 22, the initiative has allowed students to be involved directly in the business field.

Rheeima who is selling doughnuts and bombolone (Italian doughnuts) with a partner said she was excited because it is her first time being involved in entrepreneurship activities that allows her to gain new experiences.

“I am happy when visitors to the bazaar say they liked what we are selling but we did not manage to generate good sales on the first day because we did not stock enough food to sell,” she added.

The UKM Ramadan bazaar is organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small & Medium Enterprises Development with the cooperation of Kolej Tun Hussein Onn, the Centre for Students Affairs and Students Association.
