Maiwp Donates Rm75,000 Through Rahmah Ramadan Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today channelled donations amounting to RM75,000 through its Rahmah Ramadan programme to ease the burden of asnaf (tithe recipients).

MAIWP Education Committee chairman Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir said of the total, RM35,000 was donated to Sekolah Bimbingan Jalinan Kasih (SBJK), Persatuan Buku Jalanan Chow Kit (RM25,000) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ar-Riqab (RM15,000).

Elaborating, he said the donation to SBJK comprised RM15,000 to upgrade school equipment while RM20,000 was distributed in the form of cash, or RM200 each to 100 students.

He also said that since last year, MAIWP has channelled donations totalling RM55,000 to assist the school’s activities and operations.

“This contribution aims to support the Education Ministry’s compulsory education policy in providing opportunities for street, marginalised, undocumented and orphaned children to continue to obtain formal education,” he told reporters after officiating at the MAIWP’s Rahmah Ramadan programme at SBJK here today.

Meanwhile, SBJK’s senior assistant of co-curricular activities, Hasnita @ Halina Hasmat, said the donation is hoped to increase the motivation and enthusiasm of teachers and students in teaching and learning sessions.

A student who wished to be known as Sofia, 16, also expressed her happiness with the cash donation, which can be used to buy Raya clothes.
