Grilled Cencaru Stall A Big Hit During Ramadan
GUA MUSANG, April 15 (Bernama) -- A grilled fish stall which has been selling cencaru (torpedo scad) for RM1 to RM1.50 each, has been attracting hordes of daily customers.
With such affordable prices, the stall, which is run by two brothers has been able to sell 2,000 grilled fish daily during this Ramadan month.
One of the brothers, Zuhairi Hashim, 33, said he uses as much as 200 kilogrammes (kg) of fresh cencaru daily which he buys from Tok Bali, Pasir Puteh.
Zuhairi, who also hails from Tok Bali, is assisted by his siblings and other family members in cleaning and marinating the fish.
“We prepare the spices together at night and will start grilling the fish in the morning after getting the fish from our supplier.
“The preparation of the spices takes about four to five hours daily,” he told reporters when met at his stall in Bandar Utama here.
His brother, Ahmad Aiman, 24, said that they begin selling the grilled fish from 3 pm to 7 pm and also sell grilled terubuk (also known as toli shad or Chinese herring) at RM17 each as another choice for their customers.
“Our intention is to do business and do charity at the same time. Even though our profit is small, alhamdulillah, we can help others with our affordable fish and for them to taste our self-made marinade (for the grilled fish).
“The cencaru that we are selling are small-sized so one to two fish would be sufficient per customer,” he added.
Meanwhile, customer Muhammad Saifullah, 24, said that he is a regular customer at the stall.
“The price of the fish is definitely affordable as one will not be able to find such pricing elsewhere in Gua Musang. The grilled fish is tasty too just like the ones sold in other stalls. However, other stalls sell their fish at RM4 each,” he added.
