Public Urged To Donate To Gaza In Preparation For Ramadan
KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Feb (Bernama) -- Global Ehsan Relief Malaysia (GERMY), a non-governmental organization (NGO), is urging the public to donate to Gaza, especially in the form of food, in preparation for Ramadan next month.
GERMY ambassador Jafri Abu Bakar Mahmoodi voiced concern over the dire situation in Gaza, with 70 per cent of food and electricity sources destroyed by the Israeli army.
“They (the Israeli army) are currently using hunger as a 'weapon' against the people of Gaza.
“We're in a situation where children and parents are affected. Without access to food, they're compelled to resort to drinking water from filthy drains," he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama TV's 'Apa Khabar Malaysia' programme here today.
Meanwhile, GERMY chairman Aizad Hamidan highlighted the organisation's focus on delivering immediate aid to those in need since 2017, with donations reaching over 40 countries.
He said that on Oct 13 last year, GERMY distributed 1,000 hot meals to 10,000 affected Gaza residents.
“I had the chance to go to Egypt to help pack and load aid supplies. In the fifth phase of the aid mission, we sent between seven and 12 trucks (of aid) through the Rafah border crossing. InshaAllah, we plan to return to Egypt before Ramadan to provide aid,” he said.
Aizad said that the aid sent consisted of essential items for children, including formula milk, hygiene kits, and sanitary pads, which were in high demand because nearly over half of the population was made up of women and children.
Those who wish to help can channel their donations by contacting the GERMY Hotline at 012-2340413 and via the Global Ehsan Relief Malaysia Facebook page.
