MELAKA, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government has allocated RM125,000 in total to assist 1,250 asnaf in the state’s six Parliamentary constituencies in conjunction with the month of Ramadan.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the contributions would be handed to the respective Parliamentary Constituencies in stages to ensure the welfare and wellbeing of the people, especially those identified under the asnaf group.

“The state government and private companies had fulfilled their obligations by contributing business zakat (tithe) through Puzat Zakat Melaka and part of the contributions is channeled back to the people, especially asnaf, according to their respective constituencies.

"For example, today RM39,000 and food items were handed out to 390 recipients in 13 state assembly seats and three Parliamentary Constituencies in the Melaka Tengah district, namely Kota Melaka, Hang Tuah Jaya and Tangga Batu," he told reporters at the Al-Alami Mosque, here today.

He was speaking after attending the 2024 Melaka Tengah District Breaking of Fast and Ramadan contribution ceremony in the presence of Deputy Defence minister Adly Zahari who is also the Alor Gajah Member of Parliament.

Ab Rauf added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will be attending the state government organised state level Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) on April 22.
